Furthermore, we promote and contribute to academic research in aviation by participating in research projects, conferences and research articles.


Research and Development Manager – Human Factors & Industrial Systems

Dimitrios Ziakkas is an Assistant Professor in the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University.  He is an Airbus captain, instructor and examiner with current A-320, A-330/350, and A-340 type ratings. He earned a B.S. in Aviation Science in 1994 from the Hellenic Air Force Academy, Athens Greece, and a B.S. in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens (NKUA), Greece in 2003. Additionally, he earned an M.S. in History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, (NKUA), Greece in 2006. He holds a PhD from the Graduate Program in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, (NKUA), Greece (2014). Furthermore, he holds an M.S. in Human Factors in Aviation from Coventry University, UK, (2016), an MBA from  Birmingham University, UK (2019), and an MS in Human Resources Management and Development from Salford University, UK (2019). He is a member of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the European Association for Aviation Psychology (EAAP), the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES),  the Society for the History of Technology (SHOT), a Fellow member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, U.K (FRAeS), member of Hellenic Aviation Society, and a full member of European Association for Aviation Psychology (EAAP).

Affiliated Researcher

Tassos Plioutsias is an Assistant Professor of Human Factors, School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Automotive Engineering at Coventry University. Tassos has over ten years of experience in Human Factors and Accident & Incident Investigations. He was a fighter pilot in Hellenic Air Force (HAF) and he is a member of RAeS, SaRS, ISASI, EAAP and the European Chapter of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society. He earned a BSc in Aviation Science in 1996 from Hellenic Air Force Academy, Athens Greece, and a Business Administration & Management, University of Applied Sciences of Thessaly, Greece in 2014. Additionally, he earned an MSc in Project Management and Procedures, University of Thessaly, Greece in 2018. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering and Ergonomics, Doctorate, National Technical University of Athens, Greece (2021).

Senior Trainer & Consultant

Vasileios Moutevelis is a senior Flight Surgeon specialized in Internal Medicine with accumulated experience in the military aviation domain for the Hellenic Air Force. He graduated from Thessaloniki Medical School (AUTH) and Corps Officers Military School in 2007 and holds a MSc in Molecular and Applied Physiology, from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. His research interests yield in the field of Stress as related to Human Performance, which thus depicts the topic of his PhD candidacy in the field of Neuroscience in Athens Medical School. He has participated in plethora of foras of his specialty (both domestic and international), as an invited speaker, round-table coordinator and member of Organizational Committees. Currently, is an active physician, researcher, lecturer in Aviation Physiology and Aviation Safety Schools, as well as Human Performance and CRM/ORM Ground instructor.

Senior Trainer & Consultant

Maria Makrygianni is a Senior Lean Six Sigma Trainer and Process Improvement Consultant with over 18 years of experience in the aviation maintenance industry for the Hellenic Air Force, improving and supervising aircraft maintenance processes and procedures. Significant training design and delivery experience in Lean Six Sigma, Lean Management, and Lean Manufacturing.

She earned a BA in Aeronautical Engineering from Hellenic Air Force Academy, Athens, Greece, and an MSc in Advanced Industrial & Manufacturing Systems from Kingston University, London, UK. Also, she holds a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification (IASSC) and she is a Certified Systemic Analyst Professional (CSAP).

CEO & Administrator

Anastasia Kosmidou is the CEO of Kosmidou Didaskein SRL and the Human Factor Horizons administrator.  She has 20 years of experience as a teacher of English and an oral interviewer in English language assessment exams.

She earned a BSc in English Language and Literature from Aristotle University Of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece. She holds an MSc in Special Education from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. Also, she holds a diploma in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from the University of Maryland, US, and a diploma in Braille Language.

Affiliated Researcher

Spyridon Chazapis is an affiliated researcher. He is an Airbus pilot and an experienced Crew Resource Management instructor and examiner. He earned a BSc in Aviation Sciences in 1993 and holds an MSc in Human Factors in Aviation. His area of expertise lies in airline safety management systems with a specific focus on fatigue management. He is an associate member of the European Association for Aviation Psychology.

Affiliated Researcher

Konstantinos Themelis is an affiliated researcher. He received a diploma degree in computer engineering and informatics from the University of Patras in 2005, and a Ph.D. degree in statistical signal processing from the University of Athens in 2012. During 2012-2017 he has been a postdoctoral research associate at the Institute of Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications, and Remote Sensing of the National Observatory of Athens. In 2017 he joined the Cosmostat laboratory at CEA, Paris-Saclay, as a postdoctoral research associate. His research interests lie in the area of Bayesian data analysis, probabilistic machine learning, and statistical image processing with application to remote sensing and astrophysics.

He is a member of the European Association for Signal Processing and the Technical Chamber of Greece. He is also a recipient of the honorary distinction award for academic excellence from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation for the academic year 2003-2004.

Affiliated Researcher

Panagiotis Kioulepoglou is an affiliated researcher. He is a graduate of Hellenic AirForce Academy (BSc on Science of Aviation) and currently a Certified Instructor Pilot with previous experience on F-16 military fighter jets. He has successfully graduated from a series of military schools such as Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation and also served as a Flight Safety Officer for several years. He has completed Coventry University’s MSc course “Human Factors in Aviation” with distinctive awards and he is also a holder of an MBA.

Affiliated Researcher

Zisia Karagkiolidou is an affiliated researcher. She is a psychologist – clinical neuropsychologist, graduate of University of Crete. She completed her post graduate studies in Clinical Neuropsychology – Cognitive Neuroscience at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Montreal Neurological Institute (McGill University of Canada). She attended numerous continuous development seminars and she is accredited user of psychometric tools (WAIS-IV, MMPI-2, Test Roschach, TAT, etc). She also holds a bachelor degree from Aviation Nursing and Air Lift Academy. She has been involved in Air Force personnel selection panels and scientific research projects.

Konstantinos Pechlivanis is an affiliated researcher. He is an airline pilot rated in Airbus 320 family and a former HAF officer.  He earned a BSc in Aviation Science in 2005 from Hellenic Air Force Academy, Athens, Greece, and he holds an MSc in Human Factors in Aviation from Coventry University, UK. He had attended numerous courses regarding aviation safety, he had been an accident investigator and auditor. He is a member of the Hellenic Aviation Society and a full member of the European Association for Aviation Psychology (EAAP).
